How did you get engaged? --Robby proposed on Christmas night at a bar called Bottletree back home (Birmingham, AL). It’s an awesome eclectic music venue and cafe–the best you can do by far in Birmingham. We popped some Andre to celebrate.

What is the official name for the bridesmaid color – I believe J Crew named the bridesmaids’ dresses Dusty Shale. J Crew has such a way with words, you know. I have no idea how that reflects the color of the dress. The dresses were neither dusty nor shale looking. I suppose it is supposed to sound romantic. To me, the color looked more like a muted mint green.



How did you two meet?–Unfortunately we don’t have some cutesy story about how we met. We went to the same high school and college. We never formally met, we’ve more or less been aware of each other throughout the years. I’ve known Robby’s brother for a long time, which is how I knew of Robby. Around my junior year of college, I started hanging out more around them on weekends and I guess it led to Robby asking me on a date. We’ve been together ever since.

Lindsey your creativity for this wedding blew me away. What was one of your favorite diy wedding projects?–
Oh thank you! My favorite project was creating the table numbers. I was inspired by a post from Project Wedding about DIY framed table numbers. Audubon actually had framed table numbers, but I wanted to make my own that reflected my own personal style. I went to the thrift store and bought various frames and basically stapled fabrics samples that I bought from craft stores to the backs of them. I cut out paper and fabric hearts and glued them on. I then painted the letters/numbers and hot glued them on. I thought my mom was going to have a breakdown at Michael’s when I approached a bin of like 500 wooden, unpainted letters all meshed together and calmly pulled out each letter for the numbers. Of course, this was like two days before the wedding. It was fun making each table number different. There were only ten so it wasn’t very difficult to use different fabrics and color combinations that still managed to reflect the overall style of the wedding.

What song did you dance to for your first dance? –“Hysteric” by the Yeah Yeah Yeahs.

Why are you two so perfect together? — We are comfortable around very few people, but around each other, we can be be ourselves completely.

Denise – what was it like walking down the aisle?
I was strangely calm. It’s all somewhat of a blur now, but I remember just being in the moment not thinking “this is it” or “I hope I don’t trip,” but just calm and happy.

Mack- what were you thinking up on the alter?
I knew we would get married after a month of dating; three and a half years later it was finally happening.

if you two could re-live one moment from the wedding day…….
Mack: I could watch Denise come down the aisle over and over again
Denise: There isn’t a single moment I wouldn’t relive. I’d feel silly saying it was “magical” so I’m going to go back to my original one-word answer: from beginning to end it was absolutely, positively, simply FUN.

Brian and Amanda’s Wedding!

I really enjoyed seeing these two get married. You know when you can tell two people make an amazing couple and have a really sweet personal wedding that you feel? That’s Brian and Amanda.    They got married this past June at The St Louis Hotel and they were so much fun to capture. Before the ceremony they exchanged gifts in the room and we snuck around the hotel and took fun portraits on the balconies. After a quick walk down on Bourbon Street they got married in the courtyard of the hotel.   Thank  you Amanda and Brian for sharing your day!

Where did you go on your first date? The Bean Haus (a local coffee shop) and Brian had a coffee called a Bananas Foster Latte ( and we were on a blind-ish date…we met through eharmony)
Can you tell us the story of your engagement? I (Amanda) was going crazy to be married to Brian, so I just told him I wanted to get married. He kept dropping hints about the ring he designed being ready and finally one night (after I had had an awful day) we walked to get take-out dinner and while we waited for our burgers to be ready we strolled around. We were standing in front of a clock tower and Brian proposed! I said yes and I couldn’t wait to see my ring in the light (it was dark out).

What was the best part about wedding planning? I loved getting to use my creative side to make the programs and ceremony and reception decorations with the help of my family and friends. That and having a good excuse to watch Say Yes to the Dress and read wedding magazines.

How did you pick New Orleans as your destination? I searched around Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky, where we live, for a great place, but nothing stood out. We had both been in and to so many weddings we wanted something out of the ordinary, so Brian said, “What about New Orleans?” . He had never been there and I went to Tulane and knew how wonderful the Big Easy would be for a wedding, so we agree on a wedding in New Orleans.

Amanda – if you could re-live any moment of the wedding day what would you re-live? The part of the ceremony when Brian and and I exchanged our wedding vows…I just loved standing their holding his hand and knowing we are going to get to spend the rest of our lives together.

Why are you two perfect for each other? I am not sure how to explain it except to say that we both like to be in the kitchen, but Brian likes it because he likes to cook and I like it because I like to bake…we have our own lives, and we have things we share.

How did you two meet?
We met 10 years ago in Juneau, Alaska while doing a year of volunteer work with the Jesuit Volunteer Corps. We were placed in a house with 8 people (all women and Joe!) and lived there for one year…we have been together ever since.


and the inspiration behind your groom cake?
Joe will begin a neurosurgery residency in July, so I thought what would be more fitting for a groom’s cake than a brain with red velvet? It was a surprise for him.


Megan – if you could live one moment over again from your wedding day what would it be…..
Standing with Joe looking into the courtyard filled with all of the people we love and who love us…it is a feeling I will never forget.

One word to describe the married life?
Limbo…Joe and I have been living apart since the wedding! He is in California in our new home, and I am finishing my doctoral work in MA. Two more weeks to go!

where are you on your honeymoon?
We are going to Tulum, Mexico to soak up some sun (its apparently not hot enough in new orleans), good food, mexican culture, and relaxation time. No computers or blackberry- yay!

How did you two meet? We met back in High School. A friend of mine who knew Grant decided that we would like each so we drove over to his house on a whim one day.


How did you get engaged? We were in Portland for a short weekend trip. We had discussed the idea of getting engaged but had no specific plans of how or when. On our first day there, we danced around the idea – and even looked at rings. Finally, after we were back at the hotel and in bed, Heather got tired of waiting, turned to me and asked me to marry her!



Heather – what was your favorite wedding memory? Listening to Grant’s amazing vows and trying not to cry.




You two are from Seattle – why did you pick a nola destination wedding?
We wanted to have a destination wedding so that we could keep things
small – just family and close friends. In Seattle many folks choose
Hawaii for a destination wedding but we wanted something that
reflected us better. We are big history, architecture and art buffs
and we wanted somewhere with a lot of character. One thought was NYC
but when I saw a Mardi Gras themed reception in a wedding magazine I
immediately decided that NOLA would be perfect. Grant had never been
there but with me talking it up so much he was quickly sold





Describe in great detail your amazing wedding cake choices? (it really was
amazing) I fell in love with a 5 tier black and white damask cake, but I also didn’t like fondant and realized 5 tiers was far too much cake for 30 people. Also Grant really wanted to have his favorite – Chocolate cake with Chocolate icing. When we sat down with Rhonda at Flour Power she made several suggestions. We ended up getting a 3 tier cake but making the 1st two tiers fake – just fondant on cardboard. And then we had the top tier be a lemon flavored cake that we actually cut into. Then in the kitchen we had two other cakes that we knew people would enjoy eating – Grant’s chocolate/chocolate and then a NY Cheesecake with fresh strawberries. There was plenty of great tasting cake for everyone and I got the pretty photo worthy cake as well!!



Grant – what was your favorite wedding memory? Seeing all of our wonderful friends and family dancing, dining and laughing together after the ceremony.
